Flipping The Clock II

Is time linear, or cyclical? Does it flow like the sands of an hour glass or like a gurgling stream? Is it subjective or objective? Panoptic or pandemic? Random adjective or similar adjective? All I know is, it's time for another installment of...

Flipping the Clock.

So you all know the drill here. My stat count is nearing its full status for the sixth time, so before I reset it all, I'm going to go through the search results, because it amuses me. And, for extra fun, here's a the location map of all visitors:

In case you're thinking that this doesn't add up to four hundred and fifty some locations, remember there is some repeat traffic and compression going on. Plus, you have to subtract the hundred or so times a day I come to check the site myself. Moving on, here's the search results. Analysis after.

That's a lot of searches. The lion's share, of course, goes to people looking for the humbug bistro blog. May November (and substantial parts of December) always be remembered for that time I leached off the fame of a much more popular site. Once you factor out those queries, the book reviews seem to be the most popular sections, which makes sense. After all, the book titles are search terms that are widely known enough to attract a large audience, yet distinct enough that this blog doesn't get drowned by all the others with similar topics. Italo Calvino's "If On a Winter's Night a Traveler" seems to top the list, so do take a look at it, if you haven't already. I'd do more book reviews, but they take for friggin' ever to write.

That's it for this round. See you in another 500. Or you know, next post.

Later Days.

Flipping the Clock

It is time, once again, (fifth time, to be exact) to reset the mighty stat counter. As is traditional, this moment will be observed by an analysis of the word searches that have led people to this blog. It seems that with the TV show "Chuck" on hiatus, the number of people searching for Chuck and Sara porn has dropped precipitously. What's left, then, is an actual reflection of this blog's content:

"sexy" Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
"what movies have been made from the author of the door into summer" United States
"short review the door into summer by robert heinlein" Oakland, California
"Gothic elements" 'Painted Door' Sinclair Ross" Halifax, Nova Scotia
"libraries toronto" Toronto, Ontario
"david antin" San Diego, California
"review THE DOOR INTO SUMMER by Robert Heinlein" Bois-de-lessines, Belgium
"rushdie marco polo" Warsaw, Indiana
"rushdie enchantress" New York, United States
"Lorna Crozier poem 'The Painted Door'" Regina, Saskatchewan
"door into summer review" Ithica, New York
"Fallout 3 progress blog" Greenfield, Indiana
"Post Colonism in Enchantress of Florence" Delhi, India
"best study space robarts library" Thornhill, Ontario
"salman rushdie enchantress of florence review" West Hartford, Conneticut
"compliant and promiscuous by military custom" South Hamilton, Massachusetts
"the door into summer 'horse sense'" Potomac, Maryland
"farscape dilbert" Huntsville, Alabama
"waking up cant get back to sleep" London, UK
"waking up and cant get back to sleep" Richardson, Texas
"www.humbugbistro.ca" Humboldt, SK
"www.humbugbistro" Humboldt, SK
"humbugbisto.com" Saskatoon, SK
"humbugbistro.blogspot.com" Lanigan,SK
"humbugbistro.blogspot.com" Humboldt, SK
"humbugbistro.blogspot.com" Edmonton, AB
"humbugbistro.blogspot.com" Saskatoon, SK

I also got a lot of traffic for this post, largely because I made a cryptic reference to it on my Facebook status, which led to some further traffic on other pages. And then petered out, because Facebook friends are numerous, but easily distracted.

As you can see, the humbug bistro blog has really ruffled some feathers, and I guess the related URLs have let it out of the bag which town "humbug" actually refers to. Beyond that, most of the traffic seems geared towards my Heinlein and Rushdie reviews, which I'm glad for, since I put a fair bit of effort into writing both.

I'd like to draw your attention to two searches in particular: first, "compliant and promiscuous by military custom." I hope the searcher knew he or she was using a quotation directly from "the Forever War," because otherwise, that's a really creepy fetish.

Second: "Post Colonism in Enchantress of Florence." That sounds like the Enchantress encountered a nasty movement after a meal.

And on that classy note, I'm going to wrap things up. May the next 500 visitors be as interesting as this 500.

Later Days.

Reboot

It's that time again. What time, you may ask? Time to reset my wonderful stat counter, as the poor thing can only store 500 logs at a time. I usually reset around 400 or so, and this is the third time, so that means my dear little blog has received somewhere in the market of 1200 hits. And only about half of those are mine!

But before I wipe the slate clean again, I thought it would be worth everyone's time to post, for the record, the most interesting part of those records, namely, the convoluted, twisted, downright obscene, search words that lead a disturbingly sizeable portion of my viewers to this post.

So without further ado,
CHUCK SEARCH TERMS

"caught naked" Nashville
"Chuck The Ring" Brooklyn
"who's putting the condom" Pearland, Texas
"lulu divine" Nalbach, Germany
"spying on my sister and her boyfriend" Biggleswade, United Kingdom
"chuck bone" East Lansing, Michigan
"playing doctor with sister" Bloomsbourg, Pennsylvania
"james bond" Rajahmahendri, India
"hot sci fi girls" Tehran, Iran
"most romantic scenes" Kot Malik, Pakistan
"dicks in bums" Melbourne, Australia
"handjob in restaurant" Fort Collins, Colorado
"kid cant find bathroom" Lubbock, Texas
"hot" Paris, France
"hot scene in bathroom" Muscat, Oman
"hot doctor scene" Tehran, Iran
"chuck and sarah spoiler" San Diego, California
"spy my hot sister" Tripoli, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
"james bond hot scenes" Madras, India
"Quantam Leap" Hackleburg, Austria
"chuck and sarah" Porte Algre, Brazil
"guys putting on a condom" Saint Joseph, Minnesota
"gossip girl bedroom" Arak, Iran
"putting condom on your boyfriend" London, UK
"hot scene in bathroom" Aurangabad, India
"childrensex" Ardebil, Iran
"girl putting condom on guy" Starkville, Mississippi
"sexy girl" Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

I think if Chuck actually HAD that many viewers, it wouldn't have been in danger of being canceled last season. (Don't worry, though. It's coming back.) And, judging on the traffic, can you imagine how popular this site would be if I actually TRIED to attract the porn audience?

For sheer interest sake, there are other popular pages too. The Fallout review receives regular hits, and the new Beagle book received a fair bit of attention when it was first out. The comic book pages also generated a number of hits, which makes me question why I stopped doing them. I'll leave the stats up for another 24 hours, just so you can all see the numerical glory for yourself.
